Winter has ended and spring is among us, the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and our homes still feels like their stuck with winter blues. Spring cleaning is a tradition that allows us to freshen up our homes and get a head start on the seasons to come.
Here is a room by room checklist and you can use previous blogs for step by step cleaning methods.
For all rooms
1. Begin by cleaning any messes or clutter.
2. Removing all wall hangings.
3. Dust down all ceilings, corners and walls.
4. Dust and clean all ceiling fans.
5. Take down all draperies, curtains, and blinds and wash or have cleaned according to the manufacturer’s directions.
Living areas
1. Dust and clean out the couches and chairs.
2. Dust down and clean all lamps and knickknacks.
3. If any, remove and dust books from bookshelves.
4. Dust down the tables, bookshelves and the entertainment center.
5. Clean the carpets and rugs. Also take the time to clean the doormats inside and outside your doorways.
Kitchen
1. Apply oven cleaner to the oven and wipe down the refrigerator.
2. While the oven cleaner works, begin sorting through the freezer and refrigerator. Throwing away any leftovers and expired foods.
3. Take off and clean the knobs, burners, burner covers, and spill catchers from the stove.
4. Wipe down and clean the toaster, blender, and other small appliances.
5. Clean out and wipe down kitchen cabinets.
6. Wash down the counter tops in your kitchen.
7. Wipe down and clean out any drawers.
8. Wash down the sink.
9. Sweep and mop the floors.
Dining room
1. Wash down the dining table, chairs, and any other furniture thoroughly.
2. Clean the carpet and rugs, and mop floors.
Bedrooms
1. Wash all bedding, comforters, mattress pads, pillows, etc.
2. Dust down and clean all lamps and knickknacks.
3. Dust down and clean all dressers, chests, and nightstands.
4. Use a 4 container method to go through your closets. Trash, Give Away/Sell, Storage, Put away.
5. Clean flooring.
Bathrooms
1. Scrub the shower and tub.
2. Scrub down and clean the toilet.
3. Clean out and wash the inside and outside of medicine cabinets, linen cabinets, etc.
4. Wash down the sink and fixtures.
5. Shake out and clean bathroom rugs.
6. Empty and wash out the trash can.
7. Sweep and mop the floor.
Use these checklists as a spring board to thoroughly clean the areas of your home that really need extra attention. Skip items that have recently been cleaned and focus on the parts of your home that have been neglected all winter long.
